FRUA New England is committed to helping the waiting children of Eastern Europe by supporting orphanage relief efforts through FRUA National and more locally through a program connected to Tufts University in Boston, MA. Members are encouraged to make direct gifts or to purchase specialty coffees through www.frua.org, sales of which support FRUA National’s various projects throughout Eastern Europe, including the installation of therapeutically designed playground equipment and the purchase of classroom furniture. Since 2009, FRUA New England has been a major sponsor for the Big Sister Ukraine Project - a program of the Tufts University student group Child's Right to Thrive. Founded by doctoral candidate Maryna Vashchenko Raskin, the Big Sister program brings young women from local Ukrainian universities to spend an hour a day with a child every day for a period of 9 months – providing the children with consistent attention that fosters good attachment.
